its about the visitor…
Every time our hosts visit an unfamiliar church, it is important for them to recognize and recall their perspective and objective so they can remain true to them. They seek to give insight into what an average visitor would experience when visiting an unfamiliar church. So, the hosts speak and experience church as an average visitor.
We poured over data and cross checked our findings to get a good idea of the average visitor. We interviewed church visitors to learn what visitors would like or expect when they visit an unfamiliar church.
Generally speaking, the average visitor is open to God, they are not incredibly patient, not incredibly comfortable and not incredibly social, however, they are generally approachable. Visitors do not want to be in church too long and they want to feel welcomed, however, they do not want to be harassed with an onslaught of invitations either.
The average visitor does not like standing up during the service for all to see them visiting, however, a warm greeting and a handshake (possibly a hug?) serves them well.
Visitors like to know what is going to happen in the service by a church provided program including aids to assist in following songs and scriptures.
The message should not be confusing, too emotional or unrelatable leaving the average visitor feeling unsatisfied, nonspiritual or alienated. The message the average visitor would like to hear is a quality message that is uplifting, encouraging, challenging and practical enough to apply in our everyday lives.
Our hosts experience different services from a variety of churches of various denominations. Church’d serves to assist those who are sincerely seeking a church as well as the congregation who would benefit from a sincere and open worshipers point of view. Church’d hosts remain impartial as an average visitor and take under consideration the culture of the religion/faith/denomination, as well as the dynamics and sensitivity of each congregation.
